As she nears the cabin, she lowers her car’s window to listen to the delightful birdsong frequent in the area. The characters have complex backgrounds. Each has suffered a painful loss which they are still learning to live with. Bella misses her late husband, Matt. In the past, she has struggled to stay in the cabin without him. The cheerful conversations between the characters and the passed-down lessons they contain enhance the story. The romance, which is developed alongside the story’s mystery, also enriches the novel. The latest book in the series arrives with a large helping of mystery to go with the drama already on offer. Jacque Jacobs gets into the details of the storyline almost immediately, giving a clear idea of what to expect as you read. The characters are individually interesting and it is nice to see that their motivations are easy to interpret. The developing romance between Bella and Chad is pleasantly different and their conversations are refreshingly mature in a way that complements this novel's sedate pace. New Beginnings on a Mountain adopts a different approach to the classic romantic mystery storyline, upping the tempo as the story progresses beautifully. Community Unites on a Mountain by Jacque Jacobs provides a wonderful example of cooperation and civic spirit. Lives were at stake and there were a series of mysteries to solve, making for exciting and absorbing reading. I liked the fact that much of the narrative was presented using dialogue, showing the characters’ relationships and actions through speech. I also enjoyed the balance between community warmth and a suspenseful event. I liked the emergency personnel of neighboring regions coordinating their efforts, as well as the harmonious involvement of Native Americans and others. The plot presents a good example of individuals and groups striving to protect the country lifestyle they value. Outside forces including drugs and criminal gangs made the perfect villains in contrast with the lovable locals. Please Holidays on a Mountain is an engaging mystery that will have readers thinking like detectives as they try to figure out who is behind the arson in Dr. Bella Anderson’s North Carolina home and what motivated this act. The narrative starts slowly but as you read further, it moves at a faster pace as we meet more characters; the conflict and the pacing build the level of suspense effectively. The author drops clues throughout the plot, giving readers an insight into details that may otherwise have remained hidden. I also found the romantic aspect helpful in adding depth to the main characters and making them more realistic. Ultimately, Holidays on a Mountain is a Christmas story set in an isolated community, where people generally take care of each other. your local bookseller.

About me:
Mountain storytelling is in my DNA. My mother's family settled in Knox County, Tennessee, in the 1720s. My daddy, yes he was always Daddy, was a descendent of the Oliver family who settled in Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains of East TN.
I am a southerner by birth, family roots, and upbringing. My adult life is deeply grounded in family, education, and service. I've lived and worked on five continents and am grateful for the opportunities to experience other cultures first hand—immersed in the lives of the people I have met. Each individual on my life's journey has helped me to be a better person. I am grateful.

As a retired professor from Western Carolina University, I no longer have a day job. What I have is the luxury of time to write—to weave a story in the best tradition of mountain storytellers.

Summer in Florida, and most of the time, is a time when folks read and stay in out of the heat or find a nice place on the ocean or a lake or river. I wish each and everyone a joyous summer of reading great books and look forward to the start of new literary activities in the fall.
